Nov. 18, 1954

    Died. William Thomas Myers of Hamburg, in Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital Nov. 12. In 1886 he organized the Hamburg band and was elected its first president. He was twice married, his first wife was Maggie Newland who preceded him in death in 1910. Nine children were born to this union. His second wife was Miss Effie Funkhouser, who died in 1947. Nine children were born of this union.

    Forestville. Mr. W. H. (Billy) Frye got a deer on Monday; Mr. Doston Miller a turkey Tuesday and a deer on Saturday; Pvt. Billy G. Zirkle, Messrs Blair Zirkle, Orville Bowman and son Orville Jr., and Guy Wellards and Austin Knupp all got a deer during the week, also Mr. Ernest Neff a turkey.


Dec. 30, 1954

    It was a great thrill in the life of Margaret Claire Kagey, the six-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Kagey, when about 9:30 Christmas day morning the Southern Railway daily freight train stopped as it passed the Kagey home west of New Market, in order for the brakeman, Mr. Harry Strosnider, to play Santa Claus to her.  The brakeman left the train and approached the home laden with gifts for his little friend. Margaret, who since babyhood, had waved at the train when the freight would pass her home.

    In celebration of the Christmas season the Episcopal churches of Woodstock and Mt. Jackson combined to present the “Pageant of Kings” on Dec. 18 in Woodstock. Principal characters taking part were the following: Tironius, a Centurian, Bruce Barron; Herod, the king, Val Mathews; Three wise men Don Gatchell, Robert Wick, Colonel Leon Gund; Scribes Marvin Sigler and Fred Eichelman; Shepherds, Don Gund, Hunter Chapman; robbers John Hoppe, Joe Hoppe; Priest Don Gund; Levite Val Mathews; Leper Gregg Kennedy; Mary, Cary Mathews; Joseph Fred Eichelman.


Jan. 6, 1955

    Married. Miss Peggy Ann Weddle, daughter of Mrs. Beulah M. Weddle of Thurmont, Md., to Mr. William E. Dellinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. William Dellinger of Mt. Jackson in Thurmont Dec. 18.

    Miss Doris Ann Spitzer, 19 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse C. Spitzer of New Market, to Mr. Charles William Cave, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Cave of Broadway Dec. 25 in Hagerstown.


Jan. 27, 1955

    Miss Grace L. Wastler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Wastler of Thurmont, Md., and Mr. Richard C. Orndorff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Loring P. Orndorff of Mt. Jackson, Jan. 8 in Thurmont.

    Miss Wanda Lee Wean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wean of Timberville, and 2nd Lt. Stuart Samuel Jordan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Jordan of Mt. Jackson, Jan. 29 in Timberville.
