These children were enrolled at the Narrow Passage School when they were photographed in1928. They represented the entire student body of the school, including grades one through seven. The teacher was Carrie McDonald, and the school was located on the west side of U.S. 11 across from what later became known as Dorothy’s Inn. The students were (bottom row, from left) Fern Foltz Orndorff, Wilbur Lineweaver, Marvin Sweeney, Alfred Sweeney, (second row) William Kibler, Harry Bemis, Paul Cooley, Martha Foltz, Hazel Bennett, Eleanor Painter, John Bennett, John Lineweaver, (third row) Charles McInturff, Caroline Bemis, Clarence Sweeney, Richard Bemis and Sanford Sweeney. Four of them, Harry Bemis, Cleanor Painter, Fern Foltz Orndorff and Hazel Bennett, are still living. |
