This picture of Main Street, Edinburg, taken sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s, shows at least two buildings that have since been razed. The building at left housed the town drug store at the time but had also been occupied by various other businesses over time. Hugh Saum Hardware, one of Edinburg’s oldest businesses, occupied the building just north with the awning. The drugstore later moved across Main Street to the building that once housed the Pearl White Theater, and its former location was demolished to create a parking lot which today is used by a bank. The Saum building was later razed to make room for a new customer service facility for Shenandoah Telephone Co. A pay telephone booth is visible near the center of the picture at right.
