Woodstock’s East High Street was a busy place in the 1950s when this photo was taken. Safeway, the town’s largest grocery store, was located on High Street, and C&R Chevrolet was at the intersection of High and Main, its garages extending east. B.B. Bly operated an Esso gas station on the northwest corner of High and Main streets, and Homer Golladay’s Citgo station was on the southeast corner. The cars at left, including a 1955 Ford, are parked across the street from Emanuel Lutheran Church. The house visible behind Bly’s Esso station has since been removed.
