Rams dominate swim meet

Strasburg High School swimmers combine to win opener

    Strasburg’s combined boys and girls swim teams dominated a three-school, 22-event meet to kick off the 2017-18 season Saturday at the Manassas Park Community Center.

    Though both Strasburg teams performed well, it was the Rams’ girls who carried the day.

    The Rams’ combined teams defeated Stonewall Jackson, 159-103 and Madison County, 154-122. Madison County defeated Stonewall Jackson, 144-108.

    In the boys competition, Stonewall Jackson defeated Strasburg, 65-43, but Madison County prevailed against the other two entries. The Mountaineers outscored Strasburg, 71-45 and Stonewall Jackson, 66-55.

    Strasburg’s strength showed up in the girls competition. The Rams dominated Stonewall 116-38, and Madison County, 109-51. Madison County beat Stonewall, 78-53.

    Strasburg’s Abigail Davis and Tessa Hockman finished first in four events. Davis won the 100 breast stroke, the 200 individual medley, the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Hockman took first in the 50 freestyle, the 100 freestyle, the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.

    Donovan Varley of Strasburg won three events, the 200 individual medley, the 100 back stroke and the 200 freestyle relay.

    Silas Kersey of Strasburg won two events, the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay, and the Rams’ Haleigh Mills took first in the 200 medley relay and the 500 freestyle.

    Brittany McCombs was Stonewall Jackson’s only first place finisher. She won the 100 backstroke.

    Stonewall Jackson’s boys 200 medley team of Don Keith, Zach Wine, James and Sam Clark took first in the 200 medley.

    Strasburg won thee team events, two of them by girls.

    The Rams’ girls team of Mills, Abigail and Abby Davis and Hockman won the 200 medley,  and Emily Reinhardt, Abigail Davis, Alicia Summerlin and Hockman took the 200 freestyle.

    In the boys 200 freestyle, the Rams’ team of Kersey, Varley, Tyler Zimbro and Kyle Rodriguez took first place.
