MMA to host 4-team weekend tournament

    Massanutten Military Academy will host the Holtzman Invitational, a two-day tournament involving four of the nation’s top post-graduate basketball teams, Saturday and Sunday at Memorial Gymnasium in Woodstock.

    Besides MMA, tournament teams will be Bristol Prep, S4G Academy  and Combine Academy.

    Before Thanksgiving, Massanutten competed in the National Showcase Tournament at New Haven, CT, winning two of four games.

    The Flying Colonels defeated St. Thomas More, 91-70, but lost to Woodstock Academy, 88-71 after trailing by just two at the half.    

    Point guard Dereon Seabron, Norfolk, is leading the team in scoring with138 points, averaging 17.2 a game. Seabron has 34 rebounds, 21 assists, four blocks and three steals.

    Guard Brandon Suggs, Powder Springs, GA has scored 105 points, pulled down 29 rebounds, and collected 21 assists, seven blocks and six steals.

    Jarren McAllister a guard from Wake Forest, NC, has 101 points, 21 rebounds, 21 rebounds, 12 assists, three blocks and seven steals.

    Jarvis Vaughan, a Staunton forward, has 81 points, 44 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and seven steals.

    Forward Mahamadou Diawara, Mali, Africa, has 31 points, 29 rebounds, two assists, eight blocks and five steals.
