Centralís Clanton: Speed to burn

Posted 2017-09-14 By Larry Beazley

Central High School junior Kyle Clanton is having an outstanding athletic year.

In the spring, Clanton and teammates Coy Jiminez, Saxon Franklin, and Carston Shockey won the state 4x400 relay in a record-breaking time of 3:26.44.

It was the second consecutive year the foursome won the state title in the event.

Clanton also took fourth place in the state meet in the long jump and was fifth in the 200-meter dash.

Just three weeks into the 2017 football season, Clanton has scored three touchdowns as a wide receiver and has returned a punt for a 99-yard touchdown. In two previous seasons, he has excelled as a cornerback on defense for the Falcons.

As an all-state, two-sport selection as a sophomore, Clanton is likely to again be chosen this year.

Says Clanton, “I have been playing football since Little League and I love the game.”

He has a sister and his hobbies are hunting and fishing. Pizza is his favorite food.

Clanton would like to play football or run track in college but is currently undecided.   He says he choose the sport that offers the most opportunity.

“The same for what college I may choose.”

His goal for now is to help the Central football team advance far into the post-season playoffs. A state championship, he says, “would be nice.”
