Rams rally late but come up short at Skyline, 28-26

Failure to convert PATs costly for Stasburg
Posted 2017-10-05 By LARRY BEAZLEY

Skyline scored twice in the first half Friday while holding Strasburg scoreless, then held off a Rams' second half rally to win, 28-26.

Strasburg scored four second half touchdowns, but failed to make good on PAT attempts three times. It turned out to be the difference in the game.

Skyline's Quinton Diggs scored from a yard out in the first period, and Douglas Cummings booted the PAT. Skyline scored again before the half when Matt Rutherford snagged a pass from Ryan Scott from the seven. Cummings again converted.

Strasburg's offense got on track after the break when Austin Miller crossed the goal line from the four, but the first of four attempts at a PAT failed. The Rams trailed 14-6.

Skyline scored again to take a 21-6 lead, but the Rams answered when Trevor Sager took the kickoff 75 yards for a tD. Chase Hart ran in for the two-point conversion to bring Strasburg to within seven, 21-14.

Miller closed the gap to a single point early in the fourth when he ran in from four yards out, but again the conversion failed.

Skyline responded with a TD minutes later before Hard was able to connect with Brody Tomblin from 45 yards out, giving the Rams an opportunity to tie. A running attempt for the PAT failed, resulting in the loss.
