Generals head to Stuarts Draft Friday

Posted 2017-10-19 By Larry Beazley

Stonewall Jackson’s football team will travel to Stuarts Draft Friday in search of its first win of the season.

Considering that Stuarts Draft has won half of its games this season in a tough Shenandoah District, Stonewall Jackson is not likely to get the win it so desperately needs.

The Generals thus far have been too prone to err on offense and their defense is too porous.

Senior quarterback Brandon Hoover must take charge of the offense and senior linebacker Drew Binion must do the same for the Generals’ defense.

The Cougars’ senior quarterback Trevor Craig has experience and a good arm and his favorite receivers are seniors Colin Williams and Brandon Vandevander and sophomore Xavier Gregoire.

Stuarts Draft running backs Xavier Gunn, Logan Leche and Brady Ward have piled up yardage all season.  All three also play in the defensive secondary.

Senior Jordan Coffey anchors the offensive line, while defense lineman/tight end Caleb Carter has been impressive with a number of quarterback sacks.

Sophomores Kasey Branch and Freddie Walkins have been solid at the linebacker position for the Cougars.

Special teams play is highlighted by junior kicker David Oakes, also a wide receiver and defensive back.

Stonewall Jackson’s best shot at winning came a week ago when the Generals hosted Page County, another team with a losing record. The Panthers  left town 48-19 winners.
